My Mini Review:

I just had my heart ripped out, stomped on, shreded, blown up, disolved...but enjoyed every moment! What an amazing heart wrenching, beautiful, broken story. And what an amazing set of characters. All of them! Author Katja Millay did an outstanding job with this story. I will be first in line for any of her future books.

I HIGHLY recommend this one to all mature YA readers and adults alike.

I am totally emotionally drained from this one...but it was so worth it.

My Review:

 

Once again I was so thankful and thrilled when author S.R. Johannes added me to the list of Bloggers to receive an ebook ARC of Uncontrollable. You all know how much I loved the first book in this Trilogy and book two did not disappoint.

Once again Grace is such a refreshing main character. She is strong, smart, loyal, dedicated to what she believes in and pretty darn funny at times. She was put through the ringer in book one and still has a lot of healing to do. I love how Grace is still as strong as ever, but we do get to see her vulnerable side as well. One thing that I love about this story, is that Grace is also surrounded by loving supportive family and friends. Yes, perhaps there are many individuals in town who are not her biggest fans, but she does have great support. One of the biggest is her Grandmother, Birdee. Birdee is such a great addition to this story. She is one tough old 'Bird' and adds a lot of comical moments. Especially at the end where Birdee gives the thumbs up to a certain young man's bottom. :)

Okay we also have a 'love triangle' to deal with. However, for me this is not a typical or the usual annoying 'love triangle'. The reason for that is Grace. She is not an annoying girl that flip-flops on who she wants to be with. She knows what she wants and never wavers. However, she is one lucky girl to be surrounded by two very yummy boys.

One of the best aspects to these books is the backdrop of the Smokey Mountains and the wildlife. In this book we are given a taste of the plight of the Red Wolves and author Shelli Johannes has provided links and ways for readers to get involved if they so choose.

In the end, I recommend Uncontrollable to all YA and Adult readers who enjoy strong female characters, family bonds, the outdoors, mystery, action and of course some yummy boys thrown in for good measure. I for one, look forward to more in the Nature of Grace series and anything else Shelli decides to 'Grace' us with. :)

My Review:

 

I was lucky enough to receive an email from author S. R. Johannes asking if I would be interested in a free copy of her book Untraceable in exchange for an honest review. Well, of course I jumped at the opportunity. As I have read...and Loved...Shelli's other two books, On The Bright Side and Suffocate, I knew that I would enjoy Untraceable. Not only did I enjoy it? I loved it!! Shelli had me hooked from the beginning and I could not put this one down. First off I loved the storyline. I am a lover of the outdoors, camping and of course wild life, so that alone had me hooked. But these characters?

 

Grace is an amazing young women. She is strong, smart, funny and everything I like to see in a YA female character.  But we also get to see that she is vulnerable too. She is put through an array of very tough and often horrific situations, that as an adult, I am not sure could withstand. I love Grace.

 

Then we have Mo. Yummy, yummy Mo. I must admit, that I was a bit worried that the relationship between Grace and Mo was going to be too quick, and forced like is often seen in a lot of YA books. However, it was not forced at all. These two were just made for each other. I was also worried that we were going to have to deal with an annoying love triangle between Grace, Mo and Wyn. But no. We got to see Grace's internal struggles, but it was not an in your face type of thing. And Wyn? Well, I must admit I am a fan of his as well. He's the perfect 'best friend' turned boyfriend.

 

I also love how each and every character had a part in this book. I know, I know. Of course they did. No really. This book would not have been what it was without each and every one of them. Including the river, the forest and the animals. Everything just came together and fit perfectly. This book really has it all. It is a mystery, coming of age, romance, suspense and adventure story all rolled into one amazing little package.

 

In the end? I would highly recommend Untraceable. Author S. R. Johannes is one of my new go to authors. I look forward to more in the Nature of Grace series and anything else she 'Graces' us with!!

My Review:

I will be the first to admit that novella's are not really my thing. While, it's nice to pick up something and finish it within a few hours, I just find that there is never enough time to get fully invested in it. And Suffocate...totally changed my thinking! Wow! This one starts with a bang, takes hold and does not let you go. The characters were believable and so engaging. The story line is so utterly up my alley and that ending?? Awesome. I am very excited to see where author S R Johannes takes this story in the next installment. Shelli...Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me review this one.

I became a fan of Shelli's after reading On The Bright Side and she now has a new fan...my 10 year old. She absolutely LOVED OTBS as well. With Suffocate, I think Shelli has managed to bring the genre of Dystopian to a larger audience. This book is definitely suited for all ages, not just the older YA readers as many of the Dystopian books out there are geared for. However, coming from a 40+ mindset, I really enjoyed this one as well!

If you are a lover of YA Dystopian...as you all know that I am...or if you are a fan of author S R Johannes other novels...pick this one up. You will enjoy the ride!!

My Review:

I have said it before and I will say it again. Cassandra Clare speaks to my soul. I will be the first to admit that okay, this may have not been the BEST BOOK EVER! But, this series is one of my guilty pleasures. And I will admit that the whole Clary and Jace thing has gotten off track. Luckily we have other relationships to feed off of.

First off, Simon! I must say that after the last book I was starting to see Simon in a whole new light and now? Huge, Simon lover here!! Simon really has grown so much over the past 2 or 3 books. The developing relationship between Simon and Izzy is so very appealing. They are both so strong, so funny and so very stubborn. You have to love it. Okay...and the whole biting scene? One of Clare's best scenes ever!

And of course, I am still a huge Magnus Bane lover! He has to be one of the best characters out there. I just love every scene he is in. He brings so much emotion. He makes me laugh, cry, laugh, frustrated, laugh, angry, laugh...well you get the picture. I just love him. Right now, I am feeling very heart broken and worried for Magnus...and Alec. I can not wait for COHF!!

Putting aside my love for this series and this book, I will admit that the biggest portion of this book, dealing with Clary, Jace and Sebastian was a little...well, not really needed and a little weird. I think that most of us can agree that Sebastian's incestial tendencies were a little creepy. However, I get where Clare was going with all of it. Sebastian is crazy and the true definition of evil. I get it. And he does it well. But could the story have gone on without it? Perhaps. It is what it is and it did not deter me from going forward with this series, or lessen my love for this series or for Clare. I still adore them both. And I loved this ending! I know many people out there wanted a nice happy ending to this 5th installment. Not I. Not at all. I loved it! I just wish I did not have to wait so VERY long for COHF!!

In the end, I whole heartily recommend this book and this series. If you have not jumped into this one? Please do. It is one of my top favorite series and always recommend it to everyone I know. Thank you once again, Cassandra Clare.

My Review:

First off...Cassandra Clare. Are you trying to kill me? Seriously? OMG!

Looking back at my review for Clockwork Angel, I whole heartily believe that I overrated it. Clockwork Prince totally blew Clockwork Angel out of the water! As I have said before, Cassandra Clare speaks to my soul. I cannot fully explain it, but she truly is a cure for what ails me. Cassandra Clare has a knack for creating incredible characters. Whether they are characters that we love or love to hate. Every single one of these characters are embedded into my soul. I love them all!

Tessa has grown so much since the first book. I felt much more connected to her and truly caring for her on every level. She is a very intelligent young woman, funny,strong and learning about herself and the world around her. What more could you ask for. Jem is still very much, Jem. We all love him. He is that sensitive, caring, just all around great guy. While I love Jem, just like the next person, I don't LOVE Jem. My...okay, Tessa's... heart belongs to Will. Will...my Will. Okay, yes, I have a bit of a book crush on Will. Will...as with Jace from the Mortal Instrument Series...is strong, snarky, hilarious, loyal and just downright hot! Okay, okay. I know he is only 17, but somehow this book felt so much more sophisticated than Clockwork Angel. At times I really forgot that these were teenagers. I felt so connected to these three and their lives...again Cassandra Clare is a master!

Once again this book also confirmed my ever growing love of Magnus Bane. He is such a great character. There are many dimensions to Magnus and I know there are more to come. He is one of those characters that I would love to meet in real life...okay, I know he only lives between the pages of a book, but seriously, would he not be a blast to hang out with?! The things that spew from that mans mouth!

A great moment for me, was seeing the relationship building between Charlotte and Henry. These two are just so cute. For those that have read Clockwork Angel, I know you are thinking...'what are you talking about?'...but, Cassandra Clare had me in tears. You have to read it to understand.

I could go on and on about each of these characters. I am truly a lover of Character driven books. I know that many reviewers have complained that the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices are one in the same. 'There is absolutely no difference in the plots of these two series'. 'The characters are the same.' Well, okay. You may have a point... to a degree. This series takes place before The Mortal Instruments. This is the story of how it all began, so yes, of course it will be similar. As far as the characters? Okay, sure. I can see similarities. So what? I still adore them all. If I had, but one complaint. It would be the whole love triangle thing. It can be a bit exhausting and quite frustrating at times. But would I change it? No. It is what it is and I love every moment of this book.

In the end, would I recommend this book/series? Yes, oh yes, oh yes. If you love character driven stories? If you enjoy your share of snarkiness and sharp witted characters? If you love adventure and a bit of magic thrown in for good measure? If you are a fan of Victorian era, Steampunk romance? You will adore this series. If you have read Clockwork Angel and feel the series is not really worth continuing? Please... give it another shot.

And Cassandra Clare? You will be the death of me. You know that, right?

My Review:

Ashfall was one of my first books from Net Galley and I was very excited it give it a read. Dystopian/ Post-Apocalyptic are fast becoming my first choice. I know, I know. A lot of people are devouring these too. I know a lot of people out there are saying, but why? They are so dark and depressing. Okay yes, there are certainly dark moments, but you know what? There is so much good and light within these dark tales. The one thing that I love about Dystopian is that there are always those characters that rise above and show that even when times are dark, at the core of humanity we are mostly good. These characters bring to light the true testament of the human nature and our willingness to fight for what is right and our strength to survive. And this is what I loved so much about Ashfall.

At it's core, this is a book based on characters and what those characters will do in order to survive and to keep those they love alive. Yes, this is about a Super Volcano. Yes, there is a whole science aspect to this story and no it is not really dealt with in great detail, but that is not what this book was about for me. I don't know if the scientific stuff is believable. Quite frankly, I don't care. The basic premise was good enough for me. What I loved about this book was Alex. Alex's story begins with a BANG! Quite literally. And it does not stop. We see Alex grow from beginning to end and I for one enjoyed every step of the way. I connected right away to this character. He is this normal teenage boy when we first meet him...about to be left alone for the weekend while his family is off visiting other family in another state. Cool? Not! Alex's life comes crashing down on him in a matter of a few pages and so his journey to find his family begins. Right from the start, Alex is forced to grow up quickly due to the situations he is forced to be apart of and witness. Many are terrifying and heartbreaking to say the least. Along the way he meets up with many characters. Some are good but some are the true definition of evil. I don't like to put too many spoilers into my reviews, but I will say that the author, Mike Mullin, did a fantastic job of throwing enough at Alex to keep the readers wanting more and worrying constantly for Alex's wellbeing.

Halfway through Alex's journey, he meets, Darla. Darla, Darla, Darla. I love Darla. She is this amazing 18yr old girl who has grown up on a farm and learning absolutely everything from her father and then after his death, she continues to learn on her own. Darla is amazing. She is beautiful, smart, snarky and just plain cool. The relationship that develops between Alex and Darla is perfect. It is not over done and just feels natural considering everything that they go through together.

The ending of this one was also perfect - for me anyway. There is no big huge cliff hanger. Which is too often the norm in YA as of late. It ended leaving you with the knowledge that there is more to Alex and Darla's story. I for one will be anxiously waiting the next instalment, Ashen Winter.

My Review:

One of the great pleasures I get from reading is finding THAT book. The one that comes out of nowhere and catches you by surprise. Yes, I requested this book from NetGalley. I knew what it was about. But to be honest, I was not expecting a lot. I had seen some reviews and they ones I had read were not all that encouraging. You know what? I totally fell for this book and these characters right from chapter one. Anna Carey has written a phenomenal Dystopian that I completely devoured. The writing in this book left me breathless, sad, happy, VERY teary at times, hopeful, giddy...the point is? Anna Carey did exactly what I crave in a book. I felt EVERYTHING these characters felt and so much more.

Eve was a character that I could easily connect with. She has spent almost her entire life within the walls of the School. She has grown up being told that men are evil and not to be trusted. All men except for the King. On the eve of her graduation she learns the truth about her world and what her future actually holds. The truth is so terrifyingly horrific, she decides to run away into the wild. With the aide of a secret someone, she is told of a place out West - Califia - where they will take in orphan girls and protect them. And so Eve's journey begins. I love how Eve grows throughout the book. She stays true to who she is, but grows as a woman and as a human. The relationship with Arden was a great addition to this journey. Even though Arden is tough at times, deep down I always knew she was a good person. She definitely added some great conflicts and funny moments for me.

Okay. Here it is. We now have to talk about Caleb. First off. Just the name, Caleb, gets my heart beating faster. I have always had a thing for the name. And he totally lives up to the name. Can you say hot, hot, hot? Yes, Caleb found his way into my heart right from the very first sight of him. Caleb is not only hot, but confident. Not overly, not in your face. He makes you feel safe, taken care of. Oh wait. I mean, Eve. He takes care of Eve. Caleb is strong and so very protective of those he cares about. The connection between Eve and Caleb was perfect. Some have said that they thought Eve was not as wary of Caleb and men in general considering the way she was raised. However, I did not feel that way at all. She had a lot of inner apprehension, but she also was forced into the realization that what she knew to be true was all a lie. And meeting Caleb was definitely the perfect way to sway her!

There has been a lot of talk about comparisons to Twilight. Huh? I don't get that at all! To me, there is 0 comparisons. Also, many have said that this is a Wither rip-off and a bad one. Well, maybe the reason I loved Eve so much is that I was not a fan of Wither. In the end, I completely recommend this book to all Dystopian lovers. If you love characters you can instantly connect with, and love an amazing couple to root for? Go pick up a copy of Eve when it hits bookshelves. Oh, and? Just a little warning. Author Anna Carey has left us with a heart wrenching cliffhanger!

My Review:

I love, love, love this book! Many times I was left breathless and filled with so much emotion. The tears were overflowing and the stomach was over-turning! Ashes is definitely one of my top reads of 2011!

The connection to this story began instantly with Alex, the main character. Here is this girl, who at the age of seventeen, has already been through more heartbreak and obstacles than most adults will see their entire lives. And then, the unthinkable happens.

The world building within this book is why I love post-apocalyptic dystopian so much. There is just enough truthful fact to make this story so terrifyingly believable. And throughout the story you keep asking yourself, 'What would I do'? 'Would I survive'?

Ilsa J Bick's characters, despite the horrific situations they are forced to with stand, are so full of life, strength and love. And because of this, it was easy to connect and fall in love with Alex, Tom and Ellie. I whole heartily felt every victory and heartbreak along with them. But then Alex's life is turned upside down yet again as she is thrown into the town of Rule and separated from Tom and Ellie.

The dynamics within Rule are very cult-like as Alex quickly learns. Rule is very mysterious and creepy as is the council that oversees all. I love it! The town is also filled with more dynamic characters like Jess, Kincaid, the Reverend and Chris. Each of these characters has a pivotal role in Alex's life within Rule. And then a few play a crucial role as Alex is forced to learn the truth about Rule in the heart stopping final pages.

In the end, I recommend this book to all! If you are already a lover of post-apocalyptic dystopian you will devour Ashes. If you are new to the genre and the mention of 'zombies' makes you cringe? Take a chance. I promise you will love it. It is so worth the read and getting to know Alex, Tom, Ellie, Jess, Kincaid, Chris and the town of Rule. I will be reserving a spot on my bookshelf for Ashes and counting down for the next book. I will also be looking for every book ever written by Ilsa J Bick!!

You are sure to devour this book! The fact that there is an element of 'this could actually happen', makes this one hell of a ride and an outstanding debut by Mike Mullin! My review:

Once upon a time there was a story, unlike any other story. It was a brilliant, creepy, heartwarming, adventure full of unforgettable characters of epic proportion. The name of that story? Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

I found this book one day while wandering through blogland. As soon as I read the premise, I knew it was something I wanted to read. Then I saw the book trailer! I can honestly say that this trailer is the single best trailer I have seen to date. I have watched it many, many times. Then? I heard that they are going to be making the movie. I had to read this book! I will admit I was nervous when it arrived in the mail this week. What if it did not live up to the expectations I had for it? After the first page? All my worries were crushed and exploded on impacted! Do you remember the feeling that first book gave you? The one that took you away, to another world, another time and left you breathless and excited? This is what this book did to me. It took me back, back to a time, to a place in my heart where magic lives.

Words can not express how much I love this book! Just as Harry Potter, Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland and so many others have become Classics? So to, shall Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children...at least in my heart and soul. Every single one of these characters are brilliant, no matter how minor their role. They have all left their mark on my heart and I will never forget them.

In making my decision to purchase this amazing book, I decided to buy the hardcover instead of the ebook, my choice of reading format as of late. I am so very, very happy with my choice. Why? You need to have the hardcover to get the full effect and experience of this book. The book is filled with these creepy old vintage photos that add so much to this whole amazing experience known as Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

In the end? I 100% recommend that EVERYONE read this book. It is for young and old and truly is a Classic in the making. Now watch these trailers and tell me you are not enticed and in need of devouring more!

My Review:

One of the biggest draws to a book is how it makes me feel. Strong characters are also a deal breaker. If I can not relate to the main characters there is nothing holding me there. Divergent came through on all levels and more. I love this book! OMG! I mean I really loved this book! This is most definitely my favorite read of 2011 thus far.

These characters are amazing. I think of Tris as my secret inner self. Or I should say my secret alternate universe self. You know. The one where I am brave and strong and adventurous. She is small, yet strong, focused, brave, loving, selfless and she has some pretty cool tattoos. Through her rigorous and often terrifying Dauntless training, we see her grown and blossom into this kick-butt heroine. Then there is Four. Four...Four...Four. My heart belongs to Four. I am a 40yr old mother of two and I am not ashamed to admit it! Four is this amazing, strong, brave, intense, damaged, loving, intelligent, funny, sexy and fearless...almost...man...okay, young man. But yes. He really is all that and so much more.

There is so much intensity within the pages of this book and so much I could talk about. However, I don't like to include spoilers in my reviews. I will say this though? One of my favorite moments, is the knife throwing scene. The intensity of that stare between Tris and Four was brilliantly brought to life by Veronica Roth. I was inside Tris's head. I could feel the air, the looks and the inner realization of what her selflessness had brought her to. Brilliant! This is where my love of Four and Tris was born.

While Tris and Four are amazing, there are many other characters who deserve just as much praise. There are always those characters that we love to hate. Eric...the main Dauntless trainer...and Peter...one of Tris's fellow initiates...are the perfect villains. These two have evil running through their veins. Tris's two closest friends, Christina and Will were also among my favorites. These two provided many funny, touching and heartbreaking moments for me.

This dystopian world created by Veronica Roth, really worked for me. It was believable as were these characters. If you are a fan of YA Dystopian and are tired of the mind numbing love triangles? Then grab a copy today! Go! Now! I plan to read this one over and over again until book #2 comes out!

My review:

I have had this one on my TBR list for awhile now and I have read some good reviews. But I really had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! I really, really enjoyed this one! The world that Ann Aguirre has created is everything that this genre should be, but without being cheesy and predictable. The first half of the book takes place in the underground
tunnels where we meet the inhabitants of the College Enclave. I found the everyday living and governing of the enclave to be fascinating. Along with the other inhabitants of the tunnels, the Freaks. I guess some would call them the 'zombies' of this story, but I liked that they were more of the mutant species. Ann Aguirre did a great job of creating a picture of these grotesque, scary, bone chilling creatures! I loved them!

The main character and voice of the story, Deuce, is such a great character. She is a strong, kick-ass, yet believable girl...which I love! She has dreamed of becoming a Huntress and has watched the other Hunters with admiration her whole life. It is what she was meant to do, and she is good at it. Once she is branded as a Huntress she is teamed up with Fade. He is the outcast of the enclave. Yes, he has proven that he is one of the best of the Hunters, but he is an outsider and not considered one of them. Fade is a very strong, sexy, yet understated character. I loved the dynamics between these two. As a fighting duo they are tops. But I also loved the understated chemistry between them. There was none of the unrealistic 'love at first sight' or love triangle nonsense involved here. As a reader you are definitely rooting for these two and become very invested in their lives.

The other secondary characters in this book are all well developed as well. Some of them may not play Hugh roles, but they most definitely make their own impacts on the story as a whole. I really loved the Burrowers and Jengu. I would have loved more of them and who knows maybe they survived and they will make an appearance in the next book.

The second half of the book takes place after Deuce and Fade are banished Topside. I enjoyed this other dimension to the story and the addition of some new characters. Not only do they have the Freaks to contend with but the gangs of 'wolves' were added to the mix. During this conflict we are introduced two other important characters in the story, Tegan and Stalker. Tegan provides a kinda of sisterhood for Deuce, which she is in need of considering how alone they all are. Although, Stalker starts off as the strong villain? I really do like him and look forward to seeing where Ann Aguirre takes this character in the next book.

If you are a fan of YA Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian or just looking for something different? I highly recommend this book. I am eagerly awaiting book 2...Outpost...due out September of 2012!

My Review:

What are my first thoughts on this final installment of The Forest of Hands and Teeth Trilogy? I adored it! This was by far my favorite of the three. Not only is the story well developed but these characters? Incredible!

Move over Jace and Clary! Annah and Catcher are amazing. These two have become one of my favorite YA couples. Not only are they great together, but on their own they are strong, sensitive, loving and believable! I was brought to tears many times during this story. Carrie Ryan has a gift for delving into the human soul and getting to the core of her characters. As a reader you truly get the sense of how much inner turmoil these two struggle with. Catcher is on the brink between the living and the dead. We feel his loneliness as a result of being an Immune. We truly get a glimpse at his inner rage and fear of becoming a monster and turning those he loves into the unconsecrated. On the other side we see Annah's loneliness and the inner hatred and shame as a result of her scars.

This book is also filled with those great characters that we love to hate. Ox, Conall and all the Recruiters on the Island are true, true evil. Some of the things that take place are bone chilling and heartbreaking.

However, aside from all the death and destruction? A message of love and hope. Carrie Ryan has earned a spot at the top of my favorite author list. I can not wait to devour everything she writes in the future. My only complaint? I ache for more of Annah and Catcher!

You could read this as a stand alone, however, you would be missing out. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and this series!

My review:

I have to say, I loved this second installment of the Maze Runner Trilogy! It is such a refreshing change from all the Paranormal and Dystopian Romance out there right now in the YA genre. I think this really has something for everyone. I love the fact that the main character is a strong male as well. There really is not a lot of books out there for boys and this one is definitely something teen boys could sink their teeth into.

James Dashner has an amazing, amazing creative mind. Where does he come up with this stuff? Truly mind bending. I found myself constantly having to reminding myself that these are kids. They are constantly being lured into a false sense of security in knowing that these horrific things are finally at an end, only to be thrown back into an even more horrific nightmare. Again and again. James Dashner has such an amazing ability to immerse you into this unbelievable world, yet make it completely and utterly believable. There is so much mystery surrounding these characters and why they are being put through these horrific trials. There are constantly more questions being raised with every turn of the page. Yet the pace and development of story and characters is so totally enthralling you never feel as though you are going to drown in the mystery.

All of these characters are amazing in their own right. Thomas is still very much a strong and believable character in this second book. We definitely see him grow throughout this book, but he still stays very true to who he was in The Maze Runner. All the returning characters like, Minho, Newt and Teresa are great, but the addition of Brenda and Jorge added another dimension to the story that was needed. Just that little something to keep the story development and character development moving. Something that sometimes is severely lacking with a middle book in a Trilogy. I also loved the addition of the Crank. I am starting to become a fan of a little Zombie action here and there.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, that you never have to worry about anything becoming predictable or boring. Okay, yes. I guess the ending in a way is predictable. We know that nothing is going to be resolved as there is another book. I am just glad that I don't have to wait a whole year for The Death Cure!

Yes, this is a YA Sci-fi, but it truly is a book...and series...that will be enjoyed by YA and Adults alike. I highly recommend this book and this series.

I loved this little look into Viola's journey that brought her into Todd's life. This is definitely a great intro into this series and reading it made me want to revisit Todd and Viola again. If you have not read the Chaos Walking series I Highly recommend that you do and maybe start off with this little story. Trust me. It will leave you wanting more!

My review:

I am a HUGH fan of this series and this 4th installment did not disappoint. I was a bit nervous going into it as I had seen a very large mix of reviews. I did not read too many because I did not want to be influenced at all. But seriously. People out there either LOVED it or HATED it. I am one of those that LOVED it. I will be honest and say that the whole Clary and Jace thing was on the verge of being quite annoying. I am so glad that this book seemed to mainly focus on Simon. I love Simon. I always did, but now I REALLY love Simon! Seeing how Simon goes through the process of dealing with becoming a Vampire and what that really will mean to his life and his relationships with his family, friends, the Downworlder community and Mundane community is fascinating. Simon is such a great character. I absolutely love the relationship that is developing between him and Isabelle. We get to see the true essence of Izzy and I am bouncing to see where the road leads for these two!

I am definitely still on team Jace. However, I did feel that his self loathing at times was a little drawn out. Cassandra Clare definitely was close to drowning Jace in it. I understand where it was coming from. Jace has a lot to work through and that in turn results in a ton of internal struggles, but Cassandra Clare needs to be very, very careful.

There were a few new characters that were introduced into this book and I really look forward to seeing if they continue on with the next one. Although, Maureen made a small appearance in this one, it was a HUGH appearance. I really hope we see more of her in the next book. She could definitely add even more dimension to Simon's life! I really loved the addition of Jordan to the story as well. He definitely has added another dimension to the male dynamics of the story and another great character full of humour and sarcasm...which I always love!

Overall this book was amazing, especially the last 150 pages or so. Talk about intense! And what a cliffhanger! Are you kidding me? You are killing me! Must I really wait a whole year? Really?

If you are already a fan of the Immortal Instrument Series, you will not be disappointed in this one. If you have not entered into this world yet? What are you waiting for.

My review:

As I sit here writing this review, I am at a loss for words. It is hard to say that I loved this book, when you look at the contents within the cover. But, I did love this book. It is a very surreal experience. While I know that Lina and her family are a fictitious group of people. The story behind their life is not. These things did happen to real people. It is a truly heartbreaking story. And what is even more heartbreaking? The fact that myself, and many other people, knew nothing about this horrific evil that was allowed to take place in our history. I truly believe that this book should be a permanent part of our children's school curriculum. This is something that needs to be told. So that this is never, ever allowed to happen again.

There is so much more I could say about this book. However, I am left speachless. I was left with tears running down my face during the last 50 pgs or so. I could not move or do anything other than stare at the cover once I turned the last page. This is a truly heartbreaking story. But it is also a true testament to the love, power and will of the human spirit.

My review:

I was so very excited to finally get my hands on this one. First off this was my first ebook, read on my new Ereader. And this was my very first ARC copy given to me by an author for review...thank you so much Darby! And? I am bouncing right now. I so, so, so loved this book! All I can say is, Darby Karchut, where were you when I was 14? This is an awesome middle grade book, but I'm 40 and I still loved it!!

I was not too sure in the beginning if I liked the narration as it flowed into the journal entries, but after the first one? I was hooked. We get a look into the two main characters Griffin and his mentor Basil and also later in the story Griffin's neighbour/girlfriend, Katie, through their journal entries. These journal entries added so much to the story. There is so much humor in this book and there were many laugh out loud moments for me. Katie's first journal entry after meeting Griffin, is priceless!!

I have to say though that the main reason I love this book so much? The relationship between Griffin and Basil. It is so real, so human, so loving, so natural, so...everything. I don't know how you could not fall in love with Griffin. He is such a great character. We see him grow from this broken, shell of a boy, at the hands of his original mentor, Nicopolis, to the loving, strong, cheeky, funny young man he becomes thanks to Basil's love and devotion. I want to adopt Griffin.

Then there is Basil. I love Basil. He is such a strong, loving, amazing mentor/father figure to Griffin. He made me laugh just as much as Griffin. It's funny, aside from the British accent? I kept picturing Nicolas Cage in The Sorcerers Apprentice. Not sure why, but I love Basil. He is just that cool.

I love the mythology of this book as well. I have read other angel books recently and quite frankly, some of them have been quite cheesy. Not in this case! This book was more than just a story about angels though. It is a coming of age story, a love story. The growing relationship between Griffin and Katie is very sweet. And although, Katie may not have been as strong a character as Griffin, I found her very believable and likable in her own right. And Katie's best friend, Carlee? This is my daughter! Non-stop, motor mouth.

My review:

Since I started my journey into the realm of YA Paranormal and Dystopian, this book keeps popping up. I finally got around to reading it and I must say, I devoured it! This was my first experience with the whole zombie world. Every time I come across a book and realize that it involves zombies, I usually turn the other way. I am so glad that I gave this one a chance. I loved it! Why? I have always said that a good book...to me...should make me feel something. And this one made me feel many things. Yes, it is scary and terrifying. Yes, it is suspenseful and thrilling. Yes, it is heartbreaking and beautiful. It has a little of everything.

I have read many reviews that complained about Mary, the main character, being too selfish and unlikeable. Not! Look at what this girl has lived with. She is surrounded by death on a daily basis. She is being watched by the Sisterhood...which is super creepy and scary and I absolutely loved - Sister Tabitha is the Queen of Creepy/Scary! Mary has every right to some hope in her life and to go after it. Okay, so maybe some people got dragged along with her on this quest for the truth. But seriously? It wasn't like their alternative was all that appealing.

The relationships between Mary, Travis, Harry and Cass were all very believable and perfect in my opinion. I loved all of them and the development of these characters throughout the story. And of course the addition of Argos, the dog, was perfect. Any great story has to have a dog in my opinion. :0)

There were a ton of great scenes in this one. And a few jaw dropping ones that I will say took me by surprise and had me running for the Kleenex! I had no issues with the ending as some readers have. I know there are more books, so I am looking forward to seeing where this story goes from here. If you are a little leery of jumping into a zombie book? Try this one out. I promise you will not be sorry. There is so much more to it than just zombies. It is a story of love, death and hope. I loved it!! And now I am off to find The Dead - Tossed Waves and The Dark and Hollow Places!!
